The Art of Kristi Simonson
| Kristi Simonson, the owner of The Lion's Call, recently began a series of Narnian paintings. "My medium is watercolor. I like it because it travels well, cleans up easily, has no odor, and is much more forgiving than many people imagine. You can achieve a wide range of colors, from delicate facial tones to intense background washes." I started this series of paintings when Petraverd, one of our members, wrote an article about Reepicheep which I felt needed an illustration. I stayed up till after one a.m. on a Friday working on it. I had been an art major in college, but hadn't really done much painting in about six years, except on vacation. I have some half-done pictures of Israel and France, and one or two complete paintings from Yosemite National park. But other than that, nothing. Illustrating these articles gave me the nudge I needed to get back to it, though I've found that I finish paintings more quickly than Petraverd can predict his next topic, so I've started doing other pictures from Narnia as well. I'm currently in the middle of a series of the four royals and enjoying it immensely." Select an image below to enlarge and learn more. |
